The Next Wave-Blue Ray DVDs
Well, here it is already-the newest innovation in the field of movie-watching: blue ray DVDs. I have been saying for the longest time that there is a conspiracy going on out there in the movie and music industries. For the last twenty or thirty years, every time you purchase all of your favorite albums and movies on the newest medium, they put out a newer way to play and enjoy them, and you have to replace them all again. You have to hand it to them. It's clever. I mean, how else are they going to continue to making money on the same old songs and films?
When DVDs were first becoming big, I stocked up on VHS tapes. I bought them like they were going out of style. And they were, so I bought every movie I ever liked for under $100. New VHS tapes were sold 5 for $20 at the Hollywood Video I was working at at the time, and PVs for $1. or $2. And I got an employee discount on top of it. I bought two extra VCRs because I knew that, in a little while, I wouldn't be able to replace mine if it broke. I still have an incredible amount of tapes, and all of them still play, and I am surprised, because although you can't buy a plain old VCR, you can still find VCR/DVD combo players, but I'm holding onto my back-ups. I told everyone that in a few years, DVDs would be out of fashion, too, so there was no reason for me to buy any.
Well, People, I hate to say "I told you so," but it seems that I have no choice. I told you so. DVDs are already being replaced by the latest and greatest way to play the same films that played just fine on VHS. That's right, Ladies and Gentlemen, blue ray DVDs. Get them while they're hot, because God knows that won't be long!
The greatest thing about these new blue ray DVDs is that, when I asked my friends what's different about them, they told me that they were higher definition. I keep wondering how much better you can see these pictures. I have seen regular TV, high definition plasma TVs, VHS tapes, DVDs, blue ray DVDs, and I have to tell you the truth-I have not observed much of a difference between watching a VHS tape on an older TV and watching one of these new-fangled blue rays on a widescreen plasma TV. Certainly not enough of a difference to warrant the astronomical difference in price. But I suppose that if there is a difference to you, that's all that matters, right?
